(James Suckling's rating: 96 points)

Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux is the second wine of First Growth Château Margaux in Bordeaux. Its history dates to the early 17th century; officially named in 1908. After a hiatus between the 1930s and mid-1970s, production resumed in 1977 under André Mentzelopoulos, with stricter selection from the 1990s onwards. Today, about one-third of the harvest goes to the Grand Vin, roughly 30% to Pavillon Rouge, and the rest to third and fourth wines.

Its quality closely approaches the Grand Vin, sharing similar aromas and balance, though less complex. Generally approachable earlier, Pavillon Rouge still offers remarkable aging potential of 30 to 40 years.

Tasting Notes:
(Robert Parker's rating: 93+ points)
The 2022 Pavillon Rouge has turned out very nicely, offering up expressive aromas of raspberries and mulberries mingled with hints of licorice, anise and spices. Medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, it's concentrated and structured, with a rich core of fruit underpinned by plenty of sweet, powdery tannin. This is a serious Pavillon Rouge that will reward some patience.

(James Suckling's rating: 96 points)
A plush and opulent Pavillon Rouge with plums, boysenberries and hints of cedar and chocolate. Full-bodied, this has lovely powdery tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Juicy and delicious, it's so attractive now that it’s hard not to drink.
