Vincent Dancer, originally from Alsace, returned to his mother’s village of Chassagne-Montrachet in 1996 to establish his own domaine. Spanning only about 5 hectares, the estate was a pioneer of organic viticulture in the village and the first to receive official organic certification. His low-intervention winemaking yields wines of notable purity, precision, and tension, earning the domaine cult status among collectors. The estate is now under the stewardship of his son, Théo.
La Romanée is one of the highest-elevation Premier Crus in Chassagne-Montrachet. Its steep, limestone-rich slopes and cool microclimate, paired with Dancer’s restrained approach of eschewing bâtonnage, keep oak influence understated. This preserves pure white floral aromas, crisp acidity, and a distinct mineral core, making it Vincent Dancer’s most tightly wound and precise cuvée.
Spring frosts in 2016 reduced the domaine's yields by 70%, resulting in small, concentrated berries that gave this already scarce La Romanée even lower yields and remarkable concentration.

Background wisps of the exotic can be found on the white and yellow orchard fruit, mandarin orange and Granny Smith apple-scented nose. The mouth feel of the middle weight flavors though is cool and retained with a really lovely purity of expression on the highly complex, well-balanced and hugely long finish. This is terrific and a wine that will need at least a few years of cellaring first. (Sweet Spot, Outstanding!)
