Domaine Bessa Valley in Bulgaria is one of Eastern Europe’s most compelling rising stars in the wine world.
The winery was founded in 2001 by Count Stephan von Neipperg, owner of top Bordeaux Right Bank estates like Château Canon-la-Gaffelière and La Mondotte. Drawn by clay-limestone soils reminiscent of Saint-Émilion, Neipperg successfully brought Bordeaux precision to Bulgaria, establishing the winery's reputation through refined, high-value Bordeaux Blends.
Renowned wine critic Oz Clarke highlights that anyone doubting Bulgaria’s potential should try Bessa Valley’s affordable, top-quality wines, while Master of Wine Jancis Robinson praises their outstanding value, noting she would gladly serve them blind to Bordeaux lovers.
A hallmark of Bessa Valley is its luxurious use of free‑run juice — the naturally flowing, small‑quantity yet most pure and concentrated grape juice. With around 95% of cuvées made this way, the wines achieve remarkable density, clarity of fruit, and smoother tannins.
Petit Verdot 2019 shows depth, structure, and aromatic complexity of the variety, with balance and poise.

Vinification:
Petit Verdot is grown in parcels warm enough for full phenolic maturity. Hand-harvested, fermented in concrete tanks with cold and warm maceration, then aged 18 months in new French oak for depth and complexity.
Tasting Notes:
Petit Verdot 2019 shows an inky purple colour with aromas of plum, forest fruits, mint, cinnamon and lilac. On the palate it is dense and structured, yet rounded by soft tannins, finishing long and concentrated, with the variety’s distinctive depth.
