(Robert Parker's rating: 91 points)
(James Suckling's rating: 92-93 points)
Château Latour traces its origins back to the 14th century and by the 18th century was already highly regarded in the British market. In 1787, Thomas Jefferson noted and praised its quality during his visit to France, when Latour’s price was many times higher than ordinary Bordeaux wines. Its reputation was further consolidated in the 19th century, when the estate was ranked as a First Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, affirming its prestige in the Médoc. The present château was built between 1862 and 1864, becoming an enduring symbol of the estate.
Les Forts de Latour is the second label, was first labelled with this name in 1966. It is crafted with meticulous care, a higher proportion of Merlot (25-30%), and aged in 50-60% new oak, achieving a quality level comparable to Médoc Grand Cru Classé.

Tasting Notes:
(Robert Parker's rating: 91 points)
The 2011 Les Forts de Latour has a very refined bouquet, understated at first but gaining intensity in the glass with an attractive estuarine tincture developing and complementing the black fruit. Later on, there is a trademark touch of Pauillac mintiness coupled with black olives. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe tannin and very good weight in the mouth, the fruit profile leaning more towards the red side of the spectrum than black. This feels lithe and supple in the mouth, fleshy and generous with a smooth finish that slips down the throat. Enjoy this now and over the next 15-20 years.

This is really excellent. Love the nose of minerals, violets and berries. Full body, with super fine tannins and a long, long finish. Slightly lean but seamless tannins.
