Domaine de la Romanée‑Conti (DRC) is one of Burgundy’s most prestigious estates, named after its legendary Grand Cru monopole Romanée‑Conti. Renowned for producing the world’s finest Pinot Noir, the domaine owns several mythic Grand Cru vineyards in Vosne‑Romanée and is long regarded as the pinnacle of quality and value.
Romanée‑Saint‑Vivant is one of DRC’s key Grand Cru holdings, located in Vosne‑Romanée within the Côte de Nuits. Covering a total of about 9.44 hectares, DRC currently owns 5.29 hectares.
The vineyard lies on gentler slopes compared with Romanée‑Conti, with soils of limestone and clay mixed with deeper sandy layers, offering excellent drainage. In contrast to the power of La Tâche, Romanée‑Saint‑Vivant is celebrated for its fragrance, finesse, and silky texture, often showing floral, red fruit, spice, and forest floor complexity. It is widely regarded as the most elegant expression among Vosne‑Romanée’s top wines.

A deft touch of wood frames exuberantly expressive and luxurious black fruit nose nuanced by a huge range of spices, including anise, clove and cinnamon, with notes of tea and hoisin. The moderately full flavours are sappy, rich and sweet, with ample volume and a palate-drenching finish that benefits from an underlying sense of vibrancy. There is real energy here, which seems to collect and focus the flavours. There is a mild dryness, though it’s not enough to upset the balance materially. Overall, this is terrific stuff and exceptionally long, with virtually no trace of vegetal character on either the nose or the finish.

A delicious, flowery, aromatic wine. The flavors float around the firm core of fine tannins, plum skin and fig flavors, combining with acidity and leaving an impression of delicacy, yet also great aging potential.
