122 YEARS YOUNG

1895

John Younie Tulloch (JYT) acquires a property in nearby Pokolbin as settlement of a debt and names it Glen Elgin. The property contains five acres of neglected Shiraz vines and so the Tulloch Story begins. There are 5 sons and 4 daughters.

1952

Tulloch wines start to appear under their own labels as Pokolbin Dry Red and Hunter River White. The 1954 Pokolbin Dry Red Private Bin wine Best Red Wine at the Royal Sydney Wine Show and bringing the Hunter Valley to acclaim.

1969

Following Hector’s death in 1965, the company is sold outside of the family for the first time. Hector’s only son, Jay Tulloch remains with the company but it experiences difficult times under unsympathetic corporate owners.

1996

Following ownership by Gilbey’s, Castlemain Tooheys, Penfolds, SA Brewing and finally Southcorp, Jay Tulloch leaves the company after 34 years. It is the first time in over 100 years the company has no family involvement.

2001

Southcorp purchases Rosemount and ownership of the Tulloch brand passes with it. Soon after the opportunity arises for the family to buy the brand back and in 2003 the new cellar door opens and Jay’s youngest daughter Christina joins the company.

2015

Tulloch celebrates 120 years, following numerous awards and reviews for their wines and business in the previous 10 years. The brand is once again returned to its former glory and under family ownership with Christina Tulloch the CEO of the company.
